Organization

Some things
I have done so
far in the craft room
to be organized

This is a basket from
Walmart

My hsb cut the dowels
and drilled a hole in the end
so I could put these pins in

they are easy to open
when I need to take a spool off

I had bought 2 black book cases
from Walmart
because originally
I was going to make my lg table
stained on top w black ends
around the edge my hsb
nailed yardsticks
as I started to fill it
back up I realized the stained
top and black bookshelves
was not going to work

so on to plan b

I painted the bookshelves
heirloom white
and even though I lightly
sanded them the paint
did this weird bubble
it wasn't til the 2nd bookcase
and 5 layers
I realized I needed to sand
it more
and that worked

The cardboard back on the
bookcases was flimsy
so we decided to
put pegboard
and I could use
it for other things

The 2 roll carts
are from Ikea
One has scrapbooking items
the other jewelry items
so I can either roll out
at the big table
or over to my desk

the shelves in the desk area
were $15 unfinished from
Michaels
3 of them I had my hsb drill holes
in so I could put a dowel through
I will spray painting and cutting them
on the ends I will put glass knobs
There are both drilled and not drill
in this photo

the magnet bars came from Harbor Freight
and will be spray painted
the bar is from Ikea

I haven't completely figured
out what I want on
the shelves
and I imagine it'll
be as I use things
I will figure it out

This area was just empty
and useless
My hsb came up
with the brilliant idea
to put shelves in here
and they are wonderful!

I have more plans
for up there
One is to get better lighting
We plan on track lighting
over the desk area
and a fancy light over the
work table

Before and After

When we decided to do this
room we moved furniture
from one side to another
I did take some sort of
before  photos

as you can see
I tested out colors
before hand
The alcove is
Valspar's Signature
 inch worm green
and the rest of the room is
Valspar's Signature
Antique Yellow
both in satin

The alcove
I was thinking abt
painting the
woodwork yellow
my sister suggested white
and I'm glad she did!
I went with heirloom white
I had to have Lowe's
color match it

Side by side

Until.....

There aren't many
old photos
of this room
because it
was pretty much
a catch all room

It did have blue/grey
 indoor outdoor carpet
we tore up

under it was this
 lovely green linoleum

so we decided to pull it all up
and redo the wood floor
if it was in good shape

UNTIL......
(why is there always
an until in old houses)

we noted a square
pattern in the linoleum
thinking it might be
a trap door
(don't you love our imagination)
as we pulled it up
we noticed soot on the edges

The new boards are
wider than the old
boards and instead
 of replacing the whole length
they cut a square area out

We thought redo then
put a carpet but
it is in a very odd place
soooooo
back to the drawing board
and at this point we
are thinking abt painting
the floor a dk walnut color
but it won't be until
the summer
when we can open it all up

Craft room

I have been MIA
working on the middle room upstairs
in our house
this rm has always perplexed
me
it is a large room
but there wasn't any privacy
had only one window in a dormer

The room was an awful
white with brown doors
When I scraped the walls
it had been baby blue at one time

As you come up the
stairs

to the left
I just put things
on the shelves
and will revamp
when I know what I use

1. The dowels will be cut
and glass knobs on the ends

2.The metal bars
will be spray painted
 heirloom white

The table is for display
in my craft booth
but won't be painted
until the spring
Can you believe
I got it for $5?

aren't these bookcase wonderful?
My hsb made them
this corner was empty
and a wasted space

I plan on some type of art
work on the chimney

the entertainment center
will be gone. I'm not
sure what I will
be doing there

The ikea racks will have the white
inserts in the front of the shelves
The book case will be gone as well

the table is made of a door
on top of 2 bookcxases
from Walmart
(they were originally black)
backed with pegboard
and painted heirloom white
I will be doing more comparison
in another post
and some of the things
we did in the room
We did run into a lot of problems
one posted here
