Junkin'

We went to my favorite new junk places
 looking for a headboard
of course found everything else
 Everything was by the pound
I calculated out each item cost .70

Inside are wind up music boxes

I can see next years Christmas ornaments...

I don't think the wall hanging
will stay painted with the roses

Not exactly what I'm going to do with these
but they match the dining room

These boxes are perfect for storage in my closet

I was surprised to see they came from Pottery Barn

The plates are part of a tidbit tray
we'll be making clocks out of them

Odds and Ends

This stand is for big pots
 looks small here
but its not

I got the following at Hobby Lobby
Some Home Decor was 66% off
So this was 6.87
They had a lot of merchandise

I have a perfect place for it:

My hsb got his own thrifty find.....

Needless to say.....he was a happy camper

Appreciation and Kindness

I want to thank everyone
for such kind words
and I will be emailing everyone
personally in the next few days....

Today I got a very special card
from a very special lady ..........

Sandie, I know you read my blog
I just wanted to let you know
you touch our hearts
Thank You,

Too often we underestimate
the power of a touch,
 a smile,
 a kind word,
 a listening ear,
an honest compliment,
or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential to turn a life around. ~Leo Buscaglia

Just for Today......

As most of you know, today is a difficult day for me
as we have to end our fur baby's suffering
it's time...she has suffered long enough

Many years ago when I went thru another challenge in my life
I was given this bookmark from Al-anon
I would like to share it with everyone
Hopefully you will never need it
but if you find yourself in that place
please do

Just for today:

I will try to live through this day only,
and not tackle all my problems at once.
I can do something for twelve hours that
would appall me if I felt that I had to
keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today:

 I will be happy.
This assume to be true what Abraham Lincoln said,
*Most folks are as happy
as they make up their minds to be.*

Just for today:
I will adjust myself to what is,
and not try to adjust everything to my own desires.
I will take my *luck* as it comes,
and fit myself into it

Just for today:

I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study.
I will not be a mental loafer.
I will read something that requires effort.
Thought and concentration.

Just for today:

I will exercise my soul in three ways:
it will do somebody a good turn
and not get found out;
if anybody know of it, it will not count.
I will do at least two things
I don't want to do-- just for exercise.
I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt:
they may be hurt but today I will not show it.

Just for today:

I will be agreeable.
I will ook as well as I can, dress becomingly,
keep my voice low,be courteous,
criticize not one bit.
I won't find fault with anything,
nor try to improve or regulate anybody else but myself.

Just for today:

 I will have a program.
I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it.
I will save myself from two pests: Hurry and Indecision's.

Just for today:

I will have a quiet half hour all by myself, and relax.
During this half hour,
sometime I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

Just for today:

I will be un-afraid.
Especially I will not be afraid
 to enjoy what is beautiful,
and to believe
that as I give to the world,
so the world will give back to me.

A chuckle

When I was cleaning out some papers
I came across this card I bought a long time ago
it brings a smile to my face when I see it.
I hope it brings one to all of you as well

Show Us Your Life

New Years Resolutions

I'm not sure if I want to call them resolutions or not
 more like plans

Embrace the Moment

I want to simplify and declutter my life

I want to eat healthy

I want to get healthy
(yup I'm gonna look just like that - even take 25 yrs off my life- lol)

Finally learn how to use Photoshop
That I've had for 5 months
I'm not sure why it intimidates me

Get all those pictured from the last 5 years in photo albums

But the most important thing:

I want to change the focus of my life. My life with my husband up to now has been about our children. When we married we both brought children into our family, so there never has been a time since our marriage 14 yrs ago that there hasn't been a child in the house, until now. Everything has revolved around the children. We have never flown on a plane together, we never have gone a vacation - just the two of us. We plan on changing that in the next year, it will be about us connecting as a couple. Finding out who we are together. I'm excited for the challenge!

Declutter...Purge.... Organize

It seems like after you take down all the pomp and glitz
of the holidays
.. a person is ready to "clean" house - or maybe its just me.

It amazes me how many meaningful treasures,  I mean crap,
I still have even after the kids have moved out
- I think they took what they wanted and left the rest for me to deal with.
In  recent conversation with one of my children,
I brought up what I was doing
and that I was going to get rid of skates, sleds, etc
that apparently they didn't want............
I was told ,well, maybe you'll want to keep a sled or two..
..so when your grandchildren come to visit....
..Oh my pulling the grandparent guilt card..
...ok miss smartypants....so now what do you say...hmmm
..if and when that happens we'll go buy a new one
...yup that was a gd one!

It is interesting how just getting rid of 6 bags of thrift store donations
and 2 bags of trash and a bag off to one of the children
......makes you feel more comfortable.

First floor done..next week upstairs and the week after that the dreaded basement

What are You Reading Wednesdays

The First Book
 I want to talk about
 is called

The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement

by Jean M. Twenge, W. Keith Campbell

I think what hit me in this book is how something as simple as the cutesy t shirts
"I want to have it all" and social sites such as MySpace and Facebook have impacted our society.

I brought my kids up in this time peroid, we were told there were no "losers" everyone got a trophy - we didn't keep score. This book brings to light how this has lead to a generation of now adults
who do not know how to live ion the real world of disappointments.
Why is it that we did all the positive self esteem yet more young adults are on antidepressants?

Why is it that they now feel that they are more "special" than anyone else and why is it they feel they are entitled to what their parents struggled to achieve through hard work

This book was such an eye opener - it has got me looking at life in a whole different light. It makes me wonder about the children of this generationa dn will thsi come full circle?

please add on your book of the moment with your thoughts and review - it can be any kind of book
Leave your url in the comments and I will post them
(I'm still trying to figure out Mr Linky..so please bear with me)

I got all of these items a while ago...

The story that goes with these cups is they came to the US
on the lap of an elderly woman from Greece
many years ago

When they came into the thrift store I knew I had to have them
especially 12  for $10

I love these birds
I got them for $1

The Mikasa bowl was a $1 as well
