Fresh Tomato Sauce

My garden hasn't done very well this year
so I headed off to our local
farm stand Jackson's
and got a box of 2nds for $6
I had already cleaned up 1/2 of the box
before I took the photo
it was clear full
First off I boiled them
for a short time
just long enough for them to get hot

 then under cold water

so the skins would slip off

In the crockpot with
fresh basil and minced garlic

cook until softened
I drained off the juice
to use for tomato juice

the processed the tomatoes
with a blender

let it cook down
and you are done!

I got 6 qts bags of sauce

  1. You make it look so easy! I would try this out, but we did not grow tomatoes this year.

  2. I love tomatoes. I need to try this out. Thanks for sharing. Please join me tomorrow for Tasty Traditions, a Thursday recipe meme. Have a great day!

  3. Jo, Love your photography. Very colorful. I made something similar, only did not use the slow cooker. It was delicious but I think with the slow cooker it would be less labor intensive for the cook, and I'm all for that. Thanks!
    Blessings, Beth

  4. It has been years since I did this... you may have given me new motivation :)

    So nice stopping by!
    Kindly, ldh

  5. Yummo - I love farmstand 2nds.

  6. I haven't made a tomato sauce like this one is years. I don't bother taking the skins off since I had kids but when you do - yum! I invite you to join me by linking over at Vegetarian Foodie Fridays at Breastfeeding Moms Unite! Hope to see you there!

  7. Oh I am SOOOOO glad that you found my blog hop over at La Bella Vita (Fresh, Clean and Pure Friday), I can't thank you enough for your fresh tomato sauce recipe and for your support of my first day! I have to try that sauce, cuz there is nothing like FRESH tomato sauce. I hope others try it too! Luv your blog, following along now, and if you're not already, I do hope you come back soon and consider following back. You're a dear for putting up my button as so many bloggers sadly, do not do. Mwah, Roz

  8. Your sauce looks mouthwatering - I have been lucky with my tomatoes this year and have a bit of a glut, so I think I know what to do with them now :)

  9. I have never used my crockpot to do tomato sauce. Thanks for the tip. So easy! What a great idea.

  10. You can't get a better tomato sauce than that! Delicious!

  11. So glad you posted! Hope to see you again!

  12. Something like I do but I also add onions, peppers and hamburger. Makes for simple spaghetti sauce and hot dish starter. You did a great job teaching. Thank you.
Take care and have a blessed weekend.
