Happy Father's Day

I want to wish my husband
a very Happy Father's Day!

So put
your feet up and relax!

Community Picnic

Twice a month
a bunch of us
Facebook Junkies

get together
and have a face to face chat

Depending on who is available
sometimes there area few as 3 or as many a 14
We've been doing it for 15 months now
Out of it has come a lot of community events

some just fun

Many in our community say there
is nothing to do
so it started out
with a talk abt
a bike parade record
and morphed into a bike parade
and community picnic

It is bring your own pic-a-nic baskets
and if you want to share
do that too

Many of us
are on different committees
and groups

and many of the events
 overlap

WEll the rain put a damper on some of it
but the hard core group came out!

A lot of ppl said they
were going to go
but I believe the
 weather hindered a lot
of them

of course
we had many members
 of the duck family

The past 2 summers
I have done this challenge

and got more done because of it

to link up and challenge yourself

this week
of 10 things
you want to accomplish
in 10 days
 and link up

You can have fun with this
(it doesn't have to be chores)
even if its something like
reading that book

 you have been
meaning to get to
or planting those flowers

that never seem to get in
or just go to a movie

or try a new recipe

See you there!

Gone Wild

We decided to plant
mostly perennials
in our side flower bed

We also threw in a bag
of wild flower mix

so now we are enjoying watching
 what comes up everyday

 I love these
 but don't have a clue
 what they are

I can't wait for these to  open up..

Summer Lei wreath

I got the idea for this wreath

They got it from Madigan Made
The full instructions are at
I found mine at
Dollar Tree in the kids section

I got 2 bags of the plastic balls
They are smaller than you think they will be

I got 2 leis also at Dollar Tree
but in hindsight I would
get a 3rd one

 strongest hanger ever

Poked a hole through the ball
with a wooden skewer
then strung them

I did have"help"
when they would roll off Iz
would graciously
 attack and play with them

Once strung
I attempted to twist the ends
instead of taping
If you have thick wire
I would cut and tape

I cut the lei
and knotted the end of each
together

Then began wrapping pulling twisting
and adjusting

until it was covered.
You may need to add a little
bit of glue to keep the flowers
in place

Add a bow
and you're done

1000 White Women....

I don't usually write book reviews
but this book sort of grabbed me
and days later I'm still thinking abt it
Back in the '70s I read
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee
and in many ways this hit me the same way

According to the author -
It takes a historical fact -
while in Washington DC to receive the
Presidential Peace Medal in 1868
Chief  Little Wolf
of the Cheyenne asked

Little Coyote.jpg

President Grant
 to trade

1000 white women
 for 1000 horses

The thought being
 that children born
 of these unions
would make it easier
 for the tribes to
learn the white man ways
and would allow
 the white man to accept
 the "savages"

The talks fell apart
 and there wasn't any trade
However, this novel
takes the what if ...
approach

There were many parts
 that were revolting
but that time period
 in our history
 the Indian Wars were
disturburbing

There is humor,
 happiness, sadness
cruelty and kindness
There are many subplots

It was a book I could not put down
All I kept thinking was
what if our government allowed it
...crazier things have happen....
